We love the Lost Coast! Old growth redwood forests, black sand beaches—this is the trip you’ve been waiting for. We’ve been backpacking the Lost Coast just south of here for many years and now, by popular demand, we’re offering this hike along the shoreline of the wild and remote northern section. This 25-mile trail is primarily a beach route and is probably the most pristine stretch of coastline in California. Our route takes us past the old Punta Gorda lighthouse, we’ll see relics of early shipwrecks, old pioneer cabins and ranches, seabirds, sea lions, and other marine wildlife. Our hiking days will be planned around the tides and this is a beautiful, often fog-free, time of year to do this spectacular trip.
On this 6-day moderate trip, we will hike between 6 – 8 miles a day, allowing plenty of time to explore. Be sure to bring your camera. Our camps will overlook the Pacific Ocean coastline. It just doesn’t get any better than this for coastal hiking.
Located 250 miles north of San Francisco on the Humboldt-Mendocino Coast, the Lost Coast is a remote wilderness that was once the home of the Mattole and Sinkyone Indians. It is famous for its coastal beauty.
