Guides & Wilderness Staff : Bonnie Bollengier
Bonnie Bollengier
Bonnie Bollengier is a lifetime international traveler. Her first introduction to Africa was in 1990 through a semester course in Kenya through the National Outdoor Leadership School. After falling in love with the people, cultures, and wildlife of East Africa, she pursued a degree in International Studies with a concentration in African politics, history, & literature at Johns Hopkins University. She returned to East Africa again in 1993 to study a wildlife and conservation course offered through the School for International Training and the African College of Wildlife Management in Tanzania. During this time she studied the northern parks of Tanzania, and the Island of Zanzibar.

Bonnie speaks Swahili and has lived at Lake Manyara National Park to study baboon behavior. She has gone to the summit of Kilimanjaro and has hiked and climbed extensively on Mt. Kenya and Mt. Meru. She has since helped to start a cultural exchange program assisting young Tanzanians in coming to the US to work in children's summer camps and has organized the scholarship funds to assist young Tanzanian women studying science and medicine attend college. She currently works for Adventurous Women's Sports in San Francisco.
