Backpacking the Beaches from the Mattole River to Shelter Cove
Old growth redwood forests, black sand beachesthis
is the trip you've been waiting for!
We've been backpacking the Lost Coast just south
of here for many years and now. By popular demand, we're offering
this hike along the shoreline of the wild and remote northern section.
This 25-mile trail is primarily a beach route and
is probably the most pristine stretch of coastline in California.
Our route takes us past the old Punta Gorda lighthouse, and we'll
see relics of early shipwrecks, old pioneer cabins and ranches,
seabirds, sea lions, and other marine wildlife. Our hiking days
will be planned around the tides. This is a beautiful, often fog-free,
time of year to do this spectacular trip.
