Visit to Tarahumara Village & Craftspeople Copper Canyon is the undiscovered "Nepal of the West." The Tarahumara people live in this rugged country in much the same way they have lived for hundreds of years, and the surroundings will probably make you feel as if you are in another time and far away from the United Statesyet Copper Canyon is so closeand a safe place to visit as well.
You'll fly into Los Mochis, and from the old colonial town of El Fuerte you'll embark on one of the most spectacular train journeys in the world into the heart of Copper Canyon. At this time of year the rains have passed and the land is green with daytime temperatures in the 80s down in the canyon at Batopilas.
We'll go deep down into the canyon to the little 16th Century silver mining town of Batopilas where tropical plants abound. We'll stay in a charming traditional Mexican hotel and visit Tarahumara craftspeople for wares such as pottery, baskets, and violins. You can order silver jewelry custom-made from local silversmiths. We'll also hike to a remote Tarahumara village.
This is a journey back in time. We hope you'll join us on this exciting trip to see Copper Canyon and to meet firsthand the incredible people who live there.
