What clients have to say about this trip:

"This was one of the best trips I have taken, and going with my sister in law was something that I will alway treasure. We got to know alot about each other, and we are really like peas and carrots. This company Call of the Wild Adventures, Inc. is great. They were extremely orgainzed and well worth the money. Had I taken the trip myself, I don't think I would have seen such beautiful places, met such wonderful people, and got a fantastic education about Big Sur, Carmel, sea kayaking, and wine." E.B.

Day 1 ~ Arrival into San Francisco, California

Today you fly into San Francisco (SFO) Airport and are greeted at the airport by your guide.  Please plan all flights to arrive before 1 pm.  We will depart the airport and drive to Carmel-by-the-Sea.  Upon arrival, this afternoon is at your leisure to recover from your air travels and explore the town.  Guides will have suggested sights to visit in town.  We will meet as a group for a full trip briefing and our welcome dinner at 6:30 pm in Carmel.

Day 2 ~ Carmel-by-the Sea

After we enjoy breakfast, we depart for a 2 hour guided walking tour of Carmel, uncovering secret pathways, hidden courtyards, award-winning gardens, and enchanting fairytale cottages.  We’ll see Edward Weston’s photo studio, famous move locations, and funky bohemian artist homes and haunts.  After our tour, you’re free to enjoy lunch in town at one of the many cafes and bistros.  After lunch, we depart for the Monterey Bay, where you’ll have your choice of either a 3 hour guided tandem sea kayak tour along the Bay, or a 3-4 hour whale watching boat tour.  During the spring, you’ll see humpback and blue whales, as well as dolphins while out on the boat.  For those sea kayaking, you’ll get up close and personal with seals, otters, abalone, and other marine life in the Monterey Bay.  This evening, we dine in Carmel at a restaurant famous for its fresh California cuisine.

Day 3 ~ Point Lobos State Park & Carmel Valley

Today we depart for Point Lobos State Park, home to great coastal hiking and a variety of marine plants and animals.  We’ll hike 5.5 miles along the coast, where we will view the sea lions, harbor seals, otters, and kelp forests.  In addition, spring is a wonderful time to see the wildflowers blooming all over the park.  Your guide will point out the animals and plants throughout this hike.  This amazing park, with its rocky coastline, is a California favorite and no visit to Carmel is complete without a visit.   After our coastal hike, we will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before departing for nearby Carmel Valley.  We’ll spend the afternoon at a winery famous for its zinfandel and cabernet.  We’ll walk the vineyard, hear from local experts, and sample wines.  You’ll also have the time to ask questions and explore the estate.  You’ll leave with a greater understanding of the wine making process, from start to finish.  This evening we dine in Carmel at a restaurant famous for its fresh fish and inventive fusion cuisine.

Day 4 ~ Big Sur

This morning we depart early for Big Sur, home to majestic coastline and great hiking.  We’ll stop along the way to take photos of the rugged coastline before arriving at Andrew Molera State Park.  Here we will hike 6 miles along the coastline, walking through fields of wildflowers overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  Your guide will identify wildflowers for you as you take pictures and enjoy the scenery.  After our hike, we’ll further explore this historical park on foot and have lunch.  From here we will continue south to Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, where we will view waterfalls and hike down to a cove along the Pacific Ocean to watch birds including the black cormorants, brown pelican, and black oystercatcher.  This evening we enjoy our week’s celebratory meal at Big Sur’s legendary Nepenthe Restaurant, over looking the Pacific Ocean.  We’ll sit by the fire and understand why in Greek Nepenthe means “Isle of No Care”.  After dinner, we will return to Carmel.

Day 5 ~ Shopping/Sightseeing & Departure from San Francisco, California

This morning is at your leisure to finish any last minute sightseeing, shopping in Carmel, or a yoga class.  We will depart for San Francisco Airport at 11 AM.  Lunch will be eaten en route to the airport.  Please plan all flight departures after 3:30 PM.
