Today you arrive into Yosemite Valley. Hotel Check in time is 3 PM. After checking into your room, you are free to explore the Visitors Center, Ansel Adams Gallery, and other Valley sites before our 6 PM Welcome Dinner at the Mountain Room. At dinner, we’ll get to know one another and discuss the weekend’s plan over a good meal. For our evening program, we’ll join a Ranger talk and slideshow to hear about the winter flora and fauna in the National Park.
This morning we’ll have breakfast at 8:30 AM then start the day with a snowshoe lesson, where you’ll learn the basics of snowshoeing. You’ll be surprised how quickly you pickup snowshoeing – and how much fun it is to move through the dry Sierra powder! Depending on snow conditions, we may spend the day in the Valley visiting waterfalls and meadows, or we may head to higher elevations and snowshoe out to a vista point to get stunning views of the Valley and El Capitan.
This afternoon we’ll return to the hotel for hot showers and enjoy sitting by the fire before our 6:00 PM dinner as a group at the world famous Ahwahnee Hotel. Conditions permitting, after dinner we’ll walk out to the Valley Floor for some stargazing before bed.
This morning we enjoy a hearty breakfast at 8 AM before heading back out the park. Today we explore another part of Yosemite National Park which is home to 75 groupings of Giant Sequoia Trees – including the mammoth “Grizzly Giant” at 27.6 feet in diameter. We’ll snowshoe through the forest admiring the trees and looking for animal tracks such as chipmunks, rabbits, or even fox. You’ll also learn why Giant Sequoia trees are so special and unique to this area. After lunch, we’ll return to the hotel where you are free to depart anytime after 2 PM.
